North American Semi Final 1
Quite a few riders in this one without a team place in either Europe or the UK and 5 of the 8 places were filled by a range of names who may have promoters following them more closely after their performances.  Graeme Black is well known in the sport and dominated this round with 14 points, topping the rostrum ahead of impressive young Canadian Jaques Moursin.  Behind them were a trio of European based Canadian riders, Shawn Ferris and Bruce Twamley both scoring 11 whilst Jean-Marc Struther recovered from early engine problems to produce 3 wins and end on 10 points.  Wilbur Stanyk and Exkard Petrie made if 6 qualifying from Canada whilst Delmar DeRozen edged into the final spot courtesy of two race wins against a single success for each of Jack Hagen, Craig Allerellie and Casey Kehoe who all matched him on 8 points.  No huge shocks although the 3 who missed out on countback will all have come here hoping to take a top 8 place.  Young Jack Hagen impressed once again in senior company but, assuming he doens't get a second chance from reserve, his time will almost certainly come over the next years and he will be one to watch in the Under 21 title chase this year.

 North American Semi Final 2
As the first Semi Final belonged to the Canadian riders so this one was dominated by the Americans, who took 6 of the 8 final places.  Canadian Pierre Gonidis did ride well above expectation to total 11 points and claim 2nd on the rostrum and young compatriot Brandon Delgado scored consistently to also progress with 9 points.  PL star Jeremie Loucks won a tightly contested meeting on 12 points with pre-meeting favourite Braxton McChesney brushing aside bike problems to win his other 3 heats and steal 3rd place overall.  17 year old Eugene Burkes finished strongly with 5 points from his last 2 races to make it to 9 and fellow Under 21 rider Ricky Antunovich also reached that total to make progress.  The final 2 spots went to Dillon Wahl, courtesy of 2 race wins, and Billie-Ray Campo who beat both Dubb Simms and Nate Hedden in the heats which meant he pipped the pair for 8th place.  There was a big surprise in the meeting though with the elimination of Pat Landis who many fancied to go on and put in a serious challenge for the North American title this season.  He opened with a scoreless ride but looked to have got back into contention with 6 points in his next 3 heats; in a tough final race though he overcooked it and came down meaning he ended the meeting down in 13th, 2 points away from the qualifying scores.
