EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX

Was this the GP where HANS E BERGESTOL (TEESSIDE TRANSPORTERS) took a crucial step towards lifting the world title as he won his second round of the season with a 15 point haul, moving him 12 clear at the top of the leaderboard.  Runner-up was OTTO JUTTKE (ABERAVON GEMS) who produced a magnificent performance with his 14 points matching Boris Dvoynev's best wild card return of the season.  DENIS GOMOZOV (ABERAVON GEMS) took 3rd place in the round, scoring 14 points and moving to 3rd in the overall standings as the battle for a rostrum place heats up with 3 rounds to go.  The Grand Final was completed by HAYDEN WOOD (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) whose 11 point haul helped him consolidate his place in the top 8.
MARTIN SHAW (KING'S LYNN LIGHTNING) scored 10 and although he falls one place in the overall standings he will be happy that he closed the gap to the rostrum spots to just 2 points.  Shaw's team-mate ERIK DAVIDSSON (KING'S LYNN LIGHTNING) also came close to reaching the final and his good return puts him just 5 points off the top 8 places.  The other rider to reach double figures on the day was defending World Champion NICK AMBROSE (TWEEDSIDE TIGERS) who is looking unlikely to retain his title as it stands but 12 points here strengthened his position as he looks to at least make it to the top 3 again.  The final rider in the Semi-finals was BRAXTON MCCHESNEY (WHITBY VAMPIRES) with 9 points keeping him within striking distance of the top 8 places and hopes of an automatic spot in next year's series.

A trio of Brits were just outside the Semi-final spots once the qualifying scores had been counted up.  CHRIS ADAMS (WOLSTON WARRIORS) and SCOTT BRIDGES (ABERAVON GEMS) both scored 8 and remain just outside the top 8 overall, in 12th and 10th respectively but both within 9 points of 8th.  It was a tough day for LIAM REAY (WORKINGTON LOGHEADS) who was looking to at least keep pace with Bergestol at the top of the leaderboard but, after a winning start, he could only make it to 7 points and finds himself in 2nd, 12 behind Bergestol and 6 ahead of Gomozov in 3rd.  OLEG YELESNEV (WOLSTON WARRIORS) also scored 7 and is another in the pack chasing a top 8 place, sitting in 10th.  MACIEJ TERCJAK (STOCKPORT SHALEBLASTERS) slipped out of the top 3 overall with just 5 points here but is very much in the hunt for a rostrum place after his wins in the last 2 rounds.  JONUS SANDIN (WANTAGE KINGS) scored just 4 but hangs on to 8th spot overall with 3 rounds to go.  It was a tough day for the rest with HENRIK HANSEN (TUNSTALL TERRIORS) and RYAN IRWIN (OSLO OWLS) continuing their GP struggles whilst MARK BLACK (WORKINGTON LOGHEADS) got just one chance from reserve, from which he added 2 points.
