The top 3 sides from each Quarter Final progress to the Semi Finals.

The 4 sides finishing 4th will face a mini-tournament for the remaining 2 qualifying places.

WORLD PAIRS QUARTER FINAL 1
It was fairly straightforward progression, pretty much as expected, for England, Czech Republic and Australia in this, although the former and latter did both use their reserves, who made good contributions.  The Netherlands hosted the meeting and turned in a good team performance to just pip Germany to the spot in the mini-qualifying tournament between the 4th place sides.  Ireland and Spain were both effectively 1 man teams and without support for McCurdy and Alonso respectively they had to much to do to threaten the other nations.

WORLD PAIRS QUARTER FINAL 2
Denmark made took some time to get into their stride in front of their home fans but eventuall clicked into gear to join Poland and America in reaching the Semi Finals.  Italy just beat Canada, for who Struthers could have made a difference had he come in earlier perhaps, to reach the mini qualifying tournament for the 4th place finishers.  At the bottom Romania and Wales never looked like they had the power to trouble the top 4 spots and they went out.

WORLD PAIRS QUARTER FINAL 3
Scotland and Russia both turned in excellent performances to reach the Semi Finals and were joined by Slovenia for who Keglovits came in and offered fine support to the outstanding Petr Verner.  The Slovakian pair ensured a place in the qualifying mini tournament with a solid display from both riders, just seeing off home nation Latvia who used their home track advantage to really push for 4th spot.  France and Croatia never looked likely to progress although had the French used Roux earlier in the meeting they may have challenged after the reserve came in and scored 6 good points.

WORLD PAIRS QUARTER FINAL 4
This was a very tight Quarter Final which ended with the top 2 spots filled by New Zealand, cleverly bringing in reserve Darren Moore after just 2 rounds, and hosts Norway, bravely dropping Bergestol for his final 2 races to allow Rudi Juritzen to ease the defending champions through.  3rd came down to a run-off between Sweden and Bulgaria, Jonus Sandin ensuring qualification for the Swedes.  The Bulgarians will now face the qualiying mini-tournament, although had Stoyanov not suffered a 2 minute exclusion in an earlier ride they could well have progressed automatically.  Finland were also very close to progression but could not provide quite enough support to the excellent Gustafsson.  Hungary battled gamely too whilst Argentina were never amongst the points enough to manage better than last place.

WORLD PAIRS MINI TOURNAMENT
Dimitar Stoyanov continued his fine form from the Quarter Final to lead Bulgaria to the World Pairs Semi Finals with a maximum in this play-off between the 4th place sides.  Dragotto once again led the way for Italy and they were deserving of their place in the last 14 also.  For The Netherlands Zevenbergen battled well but Knapke didn't provide the support needed whilst the Slovakian pair both scored points but failed to win a heat between them which proved costly.
