POLISH GRAND PRIX

What a finish to the GP series as LIAM REAY (WORKINGTON LOGHEADS) turned in a stunning display to pick up 19 points and climb to the top of the standings at the most crucial point of the season.  With a gap of 8 points to overturn he kept to his task and confirmed himself as the new World Champion when winning his Semi Final before going on to celebrate in style by winning the Polish GP for good measure.  Behind him home favourite MACIEJ TERCJAK (STOCKPORT SHALEBLASTERS) scored 15 points and he finishes an impressive 4th place in the final standings.  HENRIK HANSEN (TUNSTALL TERRIORS) made it a second Grand Final in a row and although the series has been a tough one for him in his debut season he can go to the GP Challenge full of confidence as he has proved he belongs at the highest level of the sport in recent weeks.  DENIS GOMOZOV (ABERAVON GEMS) completed the top 4 in this meeting and he takes a very impressive 3rd place in the series overall.

SCOTT BRIDGES (ABERAVON GEMS) rode sensibly to pick up the points he needed to guarantee he will be back in the series next season.  Fellow Semi Finalists here ERIK DAVIDSSON (ROME RAVENS), OLEG YELESNEV (WOLSTON WARRIORS) and BRAXTON MCCHESNEY (WHITBY VAMPIRES) will all go to the GP Challenge in positive mood after finishing in the top 8 in Poland.

NICK AMBROSE (TWEEDSIDE TIGERS) will hand over his title but he will be back next season and wanting to climb back to the top of the chart.  HAYDEN WOOD (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) would also have been wanting to finish the season higher than he did but his 8th spot means he'll be back again for definite.  CHRIS ADAMS (WOLSTON WARRIORS) may not be as he finished 11th overall and will once again need to qualify through the GP Challenge.

The big story of the day however was that of HANS E BERGESTOL (TEESSIDE TRANSPORTERS) who made a nightmare start with two last places as he looked to defend his 8 point lead at the top of the scoreboard.  4 points in his next two races meant he clung on a little longer but with Liam Reay flying his final score of 5 points meant he could only watch as the Englishman won Semi Final 1 to take the title.  Bergestol was distraught afterwards but in reality he has done fantastically well to rise to number 2 in the world and will be back looking to go one step better next season.

At the bottom of the scoreboard in this were RYAN IRWIN (WOLSTON WARRIORS), MARTIN SHAW (KING'S LYNN LIGHTNING), JONUS SANDIN (WANTAGE KINGS) and GABRYS IRZYK (WOLSTON WARRIORS).  Irwin has had a long season of troubles and will head to the GP Challenge, a fate which also befalls Sandin whose 2 points were never going to be enough to move him up the charts into a top 8 position.  It was a poor round for Shaw but he finished 5th overall and the old warhorse will be back again next season.  Irzyk had a tough meeting as the wildcard pick with a couple of falls but he did pick up the scalps of top 8 riders Shaw and Wood to prove he is capable of competing at GP level in the future.
